November Reading Turkeys!

For the month of November, students were asked to record their book titles on turkey feathers. Each student is holding their own turkey. Look at all of those feathers!

Pumpkin Bread!

Nothing smells like Thanksgiving quite like pumpkin bread in the oven. Second Graders put on their aprons, rolled up their sleeves and learned how to read a recipe. We filled the school with the tasty aroma of baking pumpkin bread.

We learned some of our friends like to sing while they bake.

Some friends couldn't believe the amount of sugar we needed.
We learned to crack eggs INTO the bowl and not ONTO the table.

It was an educational, real-life experience! We shared a loaf once they were finished baking. It was warm and delicious! Everyone took home a loaf to share with their families over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Fall Foliage

On a beautiful Fall afternoon, we went outside and collected leaves. We used the leaves collected to make turkeys. They turned out super. I have such creative students!

We have such a great time together. Look at those happy faces!

Some of our reading buddies join in the craft.

Punctuation Celebration!

It's a Punctuation Celebration with Primary Students! The First, Second and Third Graders all took part in a celebration of the three end marks this afternoon. By the end of the day, students had exclaimed sentences, stopped at the end of statements and added "huh" to the end of questions.

Mrs. Treber presented the exclamation mark in fabulous style!

Students practiced using LOTS of feelings when reading sentences the end in an exclamation mark with Mrs. Treber.

Mrs. Z introduced the importance of the sentence-stopper period.

While with Mrs. Z, students walked along a story and STOPPED at each period.
They learned how periods work as sentence stoppers!

Did Miss Boocher explain how to use a question mark? Yes, she did!
Students practiced putting a "huh" into your voice when reading a question. Do you think they could do it? You bet they could!

We even practiced changing statements into questions! Miss Boocher had punctuation on her mind all day.

Thank you Mrs. Z, Mrs. Treber and Miss Boocher!
Our Punctuation Celebration was a wonderful success!

First Grade Reading Buddies Come to Visit!

Our First Grade buddies came over today with their reading buddies. We were able to read stories together to both of our reading buddies! It was a wonderful Thursday morning.

The reading buddies quickly became friends. Bonding over good books!

Miss Boocher even let us have healthy snacks while we read.

Our new audience!

Meet our new reading buddies. They are made from "special reading rocks" which turn to sand if they aren't read to frequently. Each student was given a plain reading rock. Students decorated them with eyes, hair and body paint. Much like with our reading buddy plants, I was overwhelmed with the motivation the special reading rocks gave the class. Our classroom was a perfectly noisy mess of students reading to rocks.
