September Reading Tree

I started a new reading program this year. I really wanted to encourage my students to read at home and on the weekends. We are doing a different program/goal each month. For September, students were asked to read 10 books. For each book, they colored a leaf and wrote the book's title on it. Outside of our classroom, we had a giant empty tree. Here is the tree at the end of September! I'm so proud of my readers!

Johnny Appleseed Day!

Preschool through Fourth Grade students gathered together today to celebrate the birthday of Johnny Appleseed. We learned about his life, tried three different types of apples, created several apple crafts and competed in Apple Trivia!

Fireman Tony Comes to Visit!

We were so lucky to have Fireman Tony come to visit the Primary students today! He is a firefighter for the South Bend Airport Fire Department.
Fireman Tony brought his two different uniforms with him to show the classes. He has one uniform for typical house and building fires and another for fires at the airport. Airport fires can reach much higher temperatures than house fires. Now we know what a firefighter looks like with all of their gear on. We shouldn't be scared of them if we are ever in a dangerous situation.

We even got to try on some of his gear! It was very heavy.

Thank you, Firefighter Tony!
