Book Talks

Second Grade Book Talks were a huge success!
The students came prepared to present a book they read to the class. Many of them dressed up in splendid costumes, while others brought in creative props to assist them in presenting their Book Talk. I was very proud of all their hard work!

Miss Boocher was Kidnapped!

A Pirate Has Taken Miss Boocher
We returned from recess on Friday to find Miss Boocher missing. Below is the video that was left by the pirate who took her. Luckily the pirate was nearby to give us riddles and story problems designed to help us locate Miss Boocher. It was a hard task, but we found her in the end! (There is 5 minutes of blank screen at the beginning of the video. This allowed time for the students to enter the classroom and gather into their seats before the video began.)

We Love Computers!

Second graders spend two class periods a week on the computers. We benefit greatly from the technology available at our school! We didn't think it was fair to keep all the benefits to ourselves. This week, we took the Kindergartners into the computer lab and showed them how to work the computers!

Congratulations Mrs. Z!

Mrs. Z, You light our lives!
Congratulations to Mrs. Z! She was our Light of Learning Award recipient. Mrs. Z is a wonderfully creative teacher who continuously pours her heart into her teaching. Her first graders adore the personal touch she puts in every lesson. We are very blessed to have her at Saint John's!

We presented Mrs. Z with a Light of Learning sash. The ribbons at the bottom contain the names of every student in our school.

Pajama Jam!

Our First Annual Pajama Jam was a wonderful event. We worked hard to earn our reward celebration. We started the Pajama Jam off by changing into pajamas.

Next, we made tasty popcorn.

Finally, Miss Boocher surprised us with a movie! It was a super, well earned afternoon!

Christmas Performance!

Joy to the World!
Our annual Christmas performance was a huge hit! The Second Graders sang with the First Graders. I was very proud of their effort practicing for the performance. They did a beautiful job the night of the performance.

Gingerbread Houses

All Sorts of Gingerbread Fun!
Mrs. Benak came to our class with bags full of gingerbread activities. She helped us make gingerbread man out of felt and glitter glue!

Then, we used our creative minds to create gingerbread houses!

Thank you, Mrs. Benak! We had such a great time with the gingerbread crafts!

Learning How to Make Paper

The best way to learn is to do! We wanted to learn how a good is produced, brought to market and used by consumers. We decided to make paper.
First, we dug into our bag of paper set aside for recycle. We took the paper and ripped it into little pieces to be soaked in water. The paper is currently breaking down in the water solution. Next, we will pour the paper out onto a screen and let it dry there. We can't wait to see how it turns out!
